8 Strategies to Pass the NCLEX RN and PN in 2022

Strategies to pass the NCLEX RN and NCLEX PN is one of the most common nurse licensure questions that we get from inquiries here in Global School of Health. It seems that no matter how well prepared a nursing student is, they are still looking for NCLEX tips and are eager to learn more. We believe that interested students are better equipped to pass the NCLEX RN and PN soon. In view of this, we are sharing our top nursing licensure exam strategies below to help you get your nursing license in 2022!

Understand How NCLEX Questions Are Made

This may sound like a big challenge but yes, you do need to get inside the minds of the exam makers if you want to pass the NCLEX RN or PN with flying colors. You may have heard previous exam takers say that the exam is difficult or tricky. Or that there are a lot of possible pitfalls for aspiring nurses like you. Just know that while they are partly correct, you can still conquer your nursing licensure exam by understanding how NCLEX questions are made and why.

One tip that we can share here is that the way that a lot of NCLEX questions are made is that they are designed to weed out nurses who may not pay as much attention to details or those who act on knee-jerk reactions. This is also the reason why the exam is designed to not allow you to go back to previous questions after you have seen the next one. There is no chance for a do-over or a “let me change my answer real quick” in the exam just like there is no room for errors in real-life nursing practice.

Remember that a nursing license is what separates a safe nurse versus someone who just has some nursing knowledge but does not know how to apply it properly. A safe nurse is someone who knows how to analyze information, has good comprehension skills, and pays attention to details to ensure that the subsequent nursing actions will be safe for the client.

Schedule Your Exam as Early as You Can After Graduation

We do not recommend that students take a gap year or wait too long before scheduling their NCLEX RN or PN. What we have observed is that the longer someone waits after graduation to schedule their nursing licensure exam, the less important they deem it is until it just falls below their list of top priorities.

When students lose motivation and momentum, the harder it is to get back to a regular study schedule and the more challenging focusing during NCLEX review classes will be. Some will find it easier to keep rescheduling their exam at this point until the nursing concepts that they have learned in school are no longer easily recalled. Once this happens, it is not the end of the world but a longer and more focused NCLEX review plan with plenty of personalized assessment is recommended for a better success rate.

Create A Review Timeline and Stick to It

After graduating from nursing school, a good NCLEX review plan and preparation should not take more than 3 to 6 months. The reason for this is that you do not want to under prepare just the same as you do not want to be overwhelmed with studying for too long.

If you are within a few months from graduation, an intensive online NCLEX review program like the Global School of Health 35-Days NCLEX Bootcamp should give you a good refresher for everything that you have learned so far. This online NCLEX review program features live lectures to help you remember and apply the most frequently asked NCLEX concepts to NCLEX practice questions. The program is typically 6-weeks long and will give you enough time to do a little bit of additional preparation if you are planning to get your nursing license in about 3 months.

If you are a student nurse who has graduated more than half a year ago, a few weeks of self-study plus the Global School of Health 35-Days NCLEX Bootcamp should give you the foundation you need to get right on track in your nursing licensure exam preparation.

Practice Answering Up to 150 Questions at A Time

There was a time when the maximum number of questions that can be asked for both the NCLEX RN and NCLEX PN was 265 but due to recent changes, the number is now down to just 145. This is important to know because as an exam taker, you will want to have the mental stamina to go for 145 nursing licensure questions if your exam does not stop at the minimum number of questions which is 75.

Try answering up to 150 nursing practice questions at a time and then study their rationales after. Not only will you have a much better mental stamina, but you will find that your analyzing skills will become sharper after a few weeks. This is part of the reason of why we answer a lot of NCLEX practice questions in the GSOH online NCLEX review program, the Global School of Health 35-Days NCLEX Bootcamp!

Answer NCLEX Practice Questions from Your Least Favorite Nursing Topics

One common mistake that exam candidates do is to spend the majority of their NCLEX review schedule studying nursing topics that they already love and understand. While this can make you feel good and give you a sense of accomplishment, you need to allot more time studying topics that you do not like and may possibly hate.

Remember systematic desensitization as a form of therapy for clients who are diagnosed with a phobia? It works because it makes the object of fear appear less threatening over repeated exposures. The same thing can be said for your dreaded nursing topics. Luckily for you, we found a way to make a lot of scary nursing topics such as ABG and ECG interpretation easier and fun to learn using a mix of learning strategies and practice questions to help you master them. This way, you will be more confident answering NCLEX practice questions.

Choose an NCLEX Review Program with Live Lectures

Most people want to get things these days just by pressing a few buttons, but nothing beats live lectures when you really want an effective NCLEX review program. Plenty of psychological and behavioral theoriescan explain why this is the case but simply put, most aspiring registered nurses are a combination of visual and auditory learners and as such, live lectures simply work better than pre-recorded ones when it comes to concept retention.

Another benefit of live lectures is that you can always make a request for the lecturer to repeat or rehash some concepts so that you can understand them better. You can also ask questions to clarify concepts that may be a little confusing for you. You cannot do this with pre-recorded lectures or with just a subscription-basis NCLEX review program. And as you know, truly understanding nursing concepts is key to pass the NCLEX RN and PN in 2022 and any year for that matter.

Enroll in an NCLEX Review Program

Not all people are good candidates for self-review. More so, review resources tend to be very limited for those who may want to prepare by themselves. By enrolling in an NCLEX review program for the RN or PN exam that features live lectures, you will have access to a structured NCLEX review program as well as the combined expertise of the seasoned nurse educators teaching in that program. You can get information on updates and other important data as they are made conveniently available to you.

Choose an NCLEX Review Program That Works for You

The most common reasons why people do not attend their nurse exam preparation classes is because they either do not have the time to attend review classes which typically useup an entire day or that they lose interest or motivation after a while. Let’s face it, a lot of people have work or have very busy schedules and so a full-day class is typically a hindrance to completing review classes. Some just do not have the time to travel to and from a review facility while some get bored from listening to pre-recorded classes, right?

The above is why the Global School of Health 35-Days NCLEX Bootcamp features 4-hours of live lectures per day instead of the more traditional full-day class schedule. We also offer a day and night NCLEX review schedule to make nursing licensure preparation more accessible for everyone no matter where you are in the world.

Yes, the Global School of Health online NCLEX program for RN and PN is open to aspiring registered nurses in the continental United States as well as overseas. It comes not just with online lectures, but also per-subject NCLEX practice questions patterned after the most commonly asked nursing topics for both NCLEX RN and NCLEX PN and a lot more (psst, contact us at GSOH to know more!). The Global School of Health 35-Days NCLEX Bootcamp is also fully online, so there is no travel time for your classes and you can attend them from anywhere!

With the above said, just know that whether you choose an online NCLEX review program or not, or if you choose subscription-based nursing review versus live and interactive lectures, we hope that we were able to share with you some good strategies to pass the NCLEX RN and PN in 2022. Cheers to your success!
