Course Description

Phlebotomy technicians are critical team members in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories and blood donor centers. Our Phlebotomy Training will cover all the requirements needed to work in the State of New York. Our course is approved by the New York State of Education Department. The topics included in the approved curriculum are:

  • Capillary puncture and venipuncture
  • Blood and non-blood specimen/culture collection
  • Blood sample handling and transport
  • Phlebotomy standard practice
  • Perform sterile and aseptic techniques
  • Phlebotomy equipment and supplies management

Practicum:

Students are not required to do a clinical internship but each candidate for the PT certification must be able to successfully perform a minimum of thirty (30) venipunctures and ten (10) capillary sticks on live individuals under the supervision of a licensed instructor during the course.

Certification:

After completing all course requirements, the student is given a Global School of Health Phlebotomy certificate, giving them the ability to apply for the National Healthcare Association (NHA) and/or the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA). Phlebotomy Technician Certification. (PTC) exam is offered onsite.

Duration:

The Phlebotomy training (65 hours) program includes 41 hours of lab supervision. Students will be taught the above skills during the 24 hours of classroom instruction. The lab component (41 hours) will be held onsite.

Requirements for enrollment

  • Picture ID(passport, driver’s license or state ID, or military ID)
  • Complete school application
  • Annual Physical Exam
  • Social Security Card
  • High School Diploma or a GED (If a student is unable to provide a copy of the diploma he/she may take a NO COST entrance exam.)
